Dr. Panos Afouxenides is a board-certified periodontist practicing in Austin, TX. After finishing dental school in his hometown of Athens, Greece, Dr. Panos worked in private practice and in the Department of Periodontics at the General Military Hospital. He was later awarded a Master’s degree in Research Methodology before completing his residency in Periodontics and a second Master’s degree in Oral Biology at Texas A&M College of Dentistry.
A strong believer in evidence-based dentistry, Dr. Panos has contributed to multiple lab-based and clinical research projects, mentoring students and colleagues throughout his career. He has authored and edited dental textbooks and received several awards for his work in both clinical practice and research. He also serves as a research judge and peer reviewer for dental journals.
Dr. Panos is a sought-after speaker who has lectured at U.S. schools, institutions, and conferences worldwide on implantology, hard and soft tissue grafting, and remote anchorage techniques. He serves as faculty at the Pikos Institute, where he is recognized as one of the leading voices in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry through his Instagram account, @periosauce. He is also listed among the teaching faculty of Operation Re-dentulate Central America Association (ORCAA).
In his free time, Dr. Panos enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and friends, and watching movies.
